Blog Post 1, ACLU

1. What exactly does the ACLU advocate for?
The ACLU advocates for protecting the rights of Americans, no matter who. They have defended the rights of Black Nationalists, White Nationalists, Communists and Fascists alike. Their goal isn't to promote a single cause other than the protection of our constitutional rights.

2. How did the ACLU get involved in Charlottesville?
They defended the first amendment right of Jason Kessler, a neo-nazi organizer who wished to organize a protest to defend a statue of a Confederate General in Charlottesville that was being planned to take down.

3. Why have liberals increasingly backed the ACLU in the last year?
The ACLU was hailed as a liberal organization after the promised to hold Donald Trump and his regime to the constitution as everyone else.

4. What argument does the ACLU make about governments and free speech?
The ACLU has made the claim that in our government free speech is a principle that simply can not be deterred from our citizenry. They have acted upon this principle for many sides so many times that they have served to reinforce the strength of the constitution as an outside party.

5. What does the article argue is the danger in allowing free speech of white nationalists?
The article makes the claim that it is something of a dangerous door to open as it potentially allows for the normalization of White Nationalism in our political climate.

6. Under what circumstance did the ACLU first start defending the free speech rights of hate groups?
They first defended a hate group when they defended a neo-nazi march in a Chicago suburb in the 70's. It was controversial since the majority of the suburb were Jews, and some of which had survived Halocaust concentration camps.

7. Why is the ACLU's defense of Milo Yiannopoulos so controversial?
Milo is a horrible horrible person who has shown that he acts purely to instigate conflict and harm both the bodies and minds of people indiscriminately.
