Blog Post 1.3 - DACA

1. Why is President Trump  taking action over Labor Day Weekend?
Trump is pursuing an end to DACA so soon because the Senate was set to determine its constitutionality on September 5th.

2. Who was the DREAM Act intended to benefit?
The DREAM act was intended to benefit the children of illegal immigrants, as it would be an atrocity to deport innocent children who grew up in the US, as American children.

3. What did DACA do to help these same people?
The DACA gave those people protection from deportation, as long as they renewed it every 2 years and maintained being productive citizens.

4. What requirements do people have to meet in order to be eligible for DACA?
Employment if not in school, or a GED or constant attendance.

5. How was the original DREAM Act a compromise on the immigration issue?
It merely postponed the debate while allowing the children to grow up and make themselves a necessary part of the US economy.

6. Why is education hard to obtain for people who would qualify for DACA?
They can not use the FAFSA, and that makes it extremely difficult to afford college.

7. How do these obstacles cause people to "adjust their expectations"?
They see themselves as nothing more than illegal immigrants, and stop caring about studying because of fear of deportation.

8. Why is it important to note that 25% of DACA recipients have a US born child?
Because those children are US citizens, and can not be left alone in the US if their parents are deported.

9. When Obama created the policy in 2012, what did it actually do?
It allowed the children to stay until a more formal decision was made on their fate.

10. What economic impact did DACA have on those who qualified for it?
It allowed them to prosper and find opportunity in the US, whereas they would have little chance for such luck in Mexico or Central America.

11. What are the states suing the federal government for?
The states are suing for either forcing them to keep "illegals" or for forced deportation of what they consider to be citizens.

12. What happens to people protected by DACA if Trump ends it?
They will be deported after their two years runs out.

13.How did the DACA program make it easier to deport these people now?
It made a registry of all of them, as well as addresses and a legal precedent for deportation.
